Gemini Gems Announcement

Evaluative iteration on custom GenAI bots

A series of evaluative research studies aimed at iterating on the custom AI bots concept attached to Google Gemini, designed to create an easier approach to generative AI and simplify users’ repeat engagement.

Challenges included: highly specialized language, limited participant pool due to secrecy, users with varying levels of expertise.

Learning with paper prototypes

In-person usability test that involved paper prototypes for alternatives

Challenges: Early prototype and mobile testing, shaking off those in-person research cobwebs.

Discovering new problems and generating new ideas - Handshake

A contextual inquiry into the use of Handshake by some employer users to drive further changes to monetization.
Ring of different archetype titles

Developing archetypes to help understand employer users - Handshake

Multiple individual research projects (interviews, thematic analysis, survey, factor analysis) aimed at developing archetypes of employer users of Handshake. (Coming soon)

Driving monetization of a larger percentage of users - Handshake

Working closely with product designers and product managers to develop a new feature list and roadmap for a redesigned monetization tier. Involved a design sprint, several usability tests, and training of designers to democratize research.

Rayban Stories

Determining AR system physical characteristics - Meta

Multiple tests of sizing and design to narrow down design options based off of the current mechanical engineering constraints and physical design. (Coming soon)

Understanding the thermal limit of consumer AR devices - Meta

A just noticeable difference test of temperatures to determine device thermal bounds in hand vs in a pocket. (Coming soon)

Developing AR hardware for a specialized user group - Microsoft

Working with military personnel to iterate on the integrated visual augmentation system used both for training and battle. (Coming soon)

Creating an industry leading VR experience - Valve Corporation

Anthropometry, OOBE testing, benchmarking, and JND of manufacturing tolerances to iterate on the industry leading Valve Index VR system.

Making a change to a product in late development - Valve Corporation

I identified a problem that affected nearly 33% of the user base and was able to create and press for a solution that focused on minimizing delays to the product timeline. (Coming soon)

Quantifying the VR experience with competitive benchmarking - Valve Corporation

The end-to-end completion of a virtual reality headset benchmarking comparison of Valve Index and competitor headsets. (Coming soon)

Established a database of physical characteristics - Microsoft

Collected anatomical measurements, both digital and analog, of a sample representative of the US population in order to recruit for a variety of hardware studies and understand the distribution of physical size. (Coming soon)

Establishing foundational knowledge for head mounted devices - Microsoft

A study establishing the understanding of how weight and balance contribute to the comfort and strain of a device mounted to the head like a baseball cap. Including electromyography (EMG), 3D motion capture, and subjective ratings. (Coming soon)

Determining the ideal size for set of earbuds - Microsoft

Working with individuals that have unique ear canals to test conceptual earbuds and identify the shape(s) and size(s) that will fit the largest proportion of the population. (Coming soon)
